Another Famous Letter Writer

Okay, so he gushes a little bit--strike that.  So he gushes like Old Faithful.  Consider it's George R. R. Martin, the man responsible for the outstanding dramatic series on HBO, The Game of Thrones (and, of course, the novels which it is based on).  And what's more, consider that the thrill of seeing his name in print like that supposedly inspired him to become a writer.  I'd say he's forgiven for his enthusiasm.

I assume some of the enthusiasm in that letter comes from the Marvel editors themselves. I composed a letter to a Marvel book back in the day, and it showed up in Avengers 55. I got a postcard from Stan about its appearance. But when the book came out the letter was full of Stan-isums. So they changed the letters to read like it was all in Marvel speak. ha.

I had a letter published in Peter Parker the Spectacular Spider-Man, and they changed "Spider Man" to "our friendly neighborhood Spider Man." So, yes, they did translate letters to Marvel Speak by adding Stan-isms.

Hmmm, maybe that explains why Stan wanted to stop responding to letters around 1966; no need to reply when he rewrote the letter!
